Quick Answers to Common Questions
Skip the wait and find instant answers to questions about our process, support, and services on our help page, such as:
What does a preschool teacher actually do day-to-day?
Preschool teachers in South Africa care for and educate children typically between the ages of birth and five. A typical day includes structured activities that develop language, number sense, colours, shapes, and fine and gross motor skills — all woven into play, songs, stories, and outdoor time.
Teachers also monitor each child’s developmental progress, communicate with parents, maintain a safe classroom environment, and prepare learning materials. Beyond the classroom, you may plan lessons, complete administrative records, and attend staff meetings.
Can I study childcare or Educare if I don’t have a Matric certificate?
Yes, alternative entry pathways still exist under the revised system. If you passed Grade 9, 10, or 11, you can enroll in foundational, non-accredited provider programs or specific basic child minding skills courses. These build the foundational literacy and credits required to transition into the fully accredited NQF Level 4 Occupational Certificate track.
Do I legally have to register my daycare if I only look after a few kids at home?
According to the Children’s Act No. 38 of 2005, you are legally required to register your facility as a Partial Care Facility if you take care of more than six children at any given time on behalf of their parents or caregivers. Operating a center with seven or more children without a valid certificate or conditional registration is a legal offense.
